A note about audience etiquette:

  1. Clap between movements. Snap when something sounds good. Boo if something is awful. (jk dont do that) Shout, holler, cry, stand up, and please feel free to react to this music whenever you feel inspired to do so.

  2. Use your phone. We encourage you to take videos and photos of the concert and share them with your friends. Please, however, be mindful of not blocking or disturbing the people around you and refrain from using flash - singers are distracted by shiny things.

  3. Learn the name of the person sitting next to you. The best thing about a Mad Scene show is you, our community. So please say hi, chat between sets. We know you want to.

NATALIE BUICKIANS, soprano

Soprano Natalie Buickians is a recent winner of the Metropolitan National Council Competition, Los Angeles District and participated in SongStudio 2020 at Carnegie Hall under the direction of soprano Renée Fleming this January. She is a doctoral graduate from the Eastman School of Music. She participated in the Aram Khachaturian International Competition where she took top jury prizes, 2nd in the Friends of Eastman Opera Aria Competition, and 3rd in the Jesse Kneisel Lieder Competition. Natalie made her European debut in the role of Suor Genovieffa in Puccini's Suor Angelica in Urbania, Italy. Her previous operatic engagements include the role of First Lady in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Giulietta in Offenbach's Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Elle in Poulenc's La Voix Humaine, Susanna in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro and the Governess in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw.

LUCY TUCKER YATES, pianist

Miss Yates first drew international attention as Violetta in a new Franco Zeffirelli/Plácido Domingo production of La traviata (Teatro Verdi di Busseto), and was immediately engaged by Gian Carlo Menotti for Spoleto (Monica in The Medium, under his direction) and Francesco Maria Colombo for the Orchestra Verdi di Milano. Critics called her Gilda “perfect” (Piedmont), her Beatrice di Tenda “dazzling” (Fletcher), and her Fiordiligi “deliciously feminine” (Aldeburgh). She appeared as Nedda in Pagliacci at Sarasota Opera and as Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia with the Opera Company of North Carolina.

Through twenty years of playing and coaching for Bel Canto at Caramoor—now triumphantly reestablished as Teatro Nuovo—with Will Crutchfield, Miss Yates has emerged as a cogent and lyrical translator and teacher of Italian grammar and poetry. She teaches Italian libretto intensives for dell'Arte Opera Ensemble. She has also served as production dramaturg, titlist, and coach for the New York City Opera, and panelist on the beloved Toll Brothers Metropolitan Opera Radio Quiz. She is a Lecturer in Opera in the Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA.

SHANNON
DELIJANI, mezzo

Iranian-American Mezzo-Soprano, Shannon Delijani, is a performer and multi disciplinary artist based in Los Angeles. Recent appearances include Arbace in the first new production of Ricchardo Broschi's "Idaspe" with Quantum Theater, Eleni in the workshop presentation of Richard Danielpour's "The Grand Hotel Tartarus" and Forough in Niloufar Nourbakhsh's "The Threshold of Brightness" presented by Beth Morrison Projects as part of Next Gen Cycle 2. In addition to her work as a performer, Shannon is a filmmaker and creative producer. In 2020 she founded MAD SCENE, an interdisciplinary production company based in Los Angeles. Her most recent film, La Dame de Monte Carlo, was an official selection of the Raleigh Film and Art Festival and Austin Arthouse Film Festival and earned her a nomination for the Rowlands Award for Best Female Performance. She is currently pursuing her DMA at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.

ZACH NEUFIELD, pianist

Dr. Zach Neufeld is a composer of a diverse range of work, including choral, orchestral, chamber, and electronic music. He is active as a pianist, organist, lecturer, and conductor, and is in demand as a collaborative pianist for singers.

Dr. Neufeld is Cathedral Organist at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Los Angeles, where he provides music for parish and diocesan services, and accompanies the Cathedral Choir. He is on the faculty of the Windward School, where he teaches music theory and accompanies the choirs. Previous teaching appointments have included UCLA, Moreno Valley College, and Mount St. Mary’s University.

Zach earned a Ph.D and M.A. in Music Composition from UCLA and a B.M. from the University of Redlands. His teachers of composition have included David Lefkowitz, Ian Krouse, Richard Danielpour, Paul Chihara, and Roger Bourland. He studied organ and conducting with Jeffrey H. Rickard and Jean-Sebastien Vallee. 

DOMINIC DELZOMPO, baritone

Baritone Dominic Delzompo has been praised by his colleagues as "enthusiastic" and "communicative."  He is slated to debut roles in world premiere performances of two operas in the 2022-2023 season: Arkady Druganin in the concert world premiere of Arkhipov (October 2022), and Gorgon in the stage premiere of Quake (June 2023). In 2022, Dominic wrote, produced, performed, and released six individual songs as Intrnet Boyfriend that have been streamed collectively over 300,000 times. He also worked as a songwriter and producer on music released by several other artists, such as Maddie Jay, Bad Snacks, Mia Gladstone, and Lilo. Also in 2022, he sang in the chorus of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Los Angeles Master Chorale under the batons of Gustavo Dudamel at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Eva Ollikainen at the Hollywood Bowl. He is a staff member of the choir at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral in Los Angeles. In prior concert seasons, Dominic has sung as a member of choirs onstage at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Hollywood Bowl, Pauley Pavilion, and as a soloist at the Rose Bowl (and other venues). He is a 2016 graduate of the Herb Alpert School of Music.
